PostSubject: Re: Are you new?   Are you new? - Page 4 I_icon_minitimeThu 10 Jul 2014, 2:36 am

Hi I'm Tierax.
This thread is stickied so I don't feel too bad about necro'ing it up... Should I?

Anyway, I found this place after getting nostalgic and searching for an old role play I used to do on the sporum (where I share my username) called 'the remnant wars'. After much searching to I found there was a part two to read! (Can't find it again though... Did i imagine things?)
I'm thinking of joining an Rp again but uncertain where to start.

My interests include gaming, art, cooking, hanging with my mates, story writing, martial arts and science.

I live in Australia in my own place, and work pretty decent hours giving me a good night life, if an annoyingly early wake up.
Anyone else as new as I?

Pleased ta meetcha Tierax! Afraid stuff is preeeeetty slow around here :P We seem to be caught in a long drive of trying to get things started/people back onto the forum. Hang around if you like, might happen that something starts soon, just don't hold your breath, he-he! Welcome to the forum! :D

Thanks ^_^

No it's cool if it's slow right now, means I have time to get acquainted with everybody I do meet!

Also... I'm used to it, most people I meet on forums usually are currently up really late/early. Very rare to find someone in my time zone haha

'Ello, Tierax. Glad to have you aboard. You're probably looking for this.

I think to call things 'slow' is an understatement, Sze.

Still, though. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Thank you very much Jazztap, may I ask, what Rp's do you all prefer?

I favor RPGs - anything with counters, dice rolls, or statblocks - for being more structured (or at least, more compulsive) than prose alone ends up being.

I'd express some kind of thematic preference - 'not wholly anthropocentric', at a rough pass - but within this community, I'd probably go for most anything cooperative, at the moment. (Provided that it's not about teenagers.)

Nice, I tend to go any way myself, haven't done anything like an anthropomorphic one though... Tend to stick to sci-fi or fantasy.
Structured RPGs like dnd, pathfinder and the like hold my interest as well, but I always end up being the villain or anti-hero.
Never actually win though, feels to cheap to do that you know?

Ever run a villain?

I'm up for anything, but like a bit of fantasy/sci-fi with lots of character interaction and just plain action to boot :3

Hey, teenagers are DELICIOUS.

Yeah they can be the most fun, a little frustrating if I get separated though... Mostly my own fault when it happens haha.

Never played a PVP one though, either of you?

Oh, I didn't mean that kind of anthro. It's nice to get away from human concerns sometimes, I'm trying to say. Or at least from human-shaped characters.

A villain? Only a couple of times, particularly in god-games. (Those being collaborative, mostly, I'm not sure they entirely count.) Alas, my anti-heroes rarely make it far enough to do anything very anti-heroic (except in videogames).

But Sze, doesn't that make it about the things that eat the teenagers?

PvP? Only rarely, and not as the game's focus. I find it stressful, anyways.

Aah ok, can't say I've played a god game before... Seems like fun though, I do so love my minions >:D

I imagine PVP would be, especially once you get attached to the characters themselves

We've unfortunately lost most of everybody with that last rush. It is quite a shame. I'd love to breathe life into this place again, but we don't have much of a medium for attracting attention.

Try advertising on promotion sites. There's lots of people that visit those sites looking for places to go. Try places like The Admin Zone and Forumpromotion. I did this with RG and there were amazing results. It can be time consuming though. Make a bump in your advertisement threads every 24 hours for a week or so. Be persistent with your advertising, but don't be so pushy that you come off as annoying or desperate. IT might seem hard but it's definitely worth it.

You could also try traffic sharing or whatever the term is. It's where you ask an admin of another site to advertise your forum and in return you advertise theirs. I could easily do this for you by posting RPP's link in my sigs on RG and Roleplex, and in return, you post the links of those forums in your sig here, if you like.

Advertising is fine and all, but word of mouth tends to attract more dedicated people... And less trolls... Did this place ever suffer from trollusoverloadus?

No, not really. There have only been minor problems and disagreements among the users, but no dedicated trolls. Do you have anything in mind Tierax?

About being a troll? Nope. But as for adverts I find just attaching a link I'm my sigs in other forums and telling my rp mates about te site work best, had a few join the sporum from that method, slower... Much slower though...

I wouldn't say disinterest, I think it just not so dire as to pay for advertising... But I'm new here haha
I don't know the full story of this here role play realm

You don't need to pay for anything. Just sign up on places like Admin Zone and Promotion Forum. It's just a normal forum like this one. You don't pay anything. You sign up there and then you make a post about your website and include and link and description. And I'd be willing to do traffic exchange with Patches, since I know him. It would benefit us both, actually.

Time is still money. Well, it's a cost, at least. And public advertisement is always for unpredictable benefit.

Either someone will take it on or no-one will. Depends on the economics of it.

It sometimes simple depends on how much tone an work you devote to it. If you make a post that looks unprofessional or otherwise crappy, people will be less willing to join. You need a good layout for each post and you have to spread these posts to not one, but many advertising forums. I did this. It didn't gain me an enormous change, but I gained a fair amount of new members from it, which is better than none.

If it is decided this will become a thing, I have to find someone else to help redesign the forum. This one theme is old, and it being a little brighter wouldn't hurt.
