| Okay seriously guys I see a bunch of stuff out there for video games and music but hey man, where's the anime thread? So while I'm trying to figure out a post for POMH and waiting for Omni to return for TA I am creating this thread because why-the-heck-not, and also because the chatbox tends to get derailed when it comes to topics so that's kind of out for a singular discussion.
So now, what beautiful gems of animated features and graphic novels specifically from the area of Japan have you all seen? What are your faves? Any you particularly hate and want to rant about? Would you recommend any of them? Let's see what's out there. u_u

| Has anyone besides me read the P3M spinoff with Kazumi? I'm in the middle of it. It's a bit confusing trying to tell what's going on, but it's still good.
My favorite anime is still Panty and Stocking though...

| I don't do too much anime/manga, but my favorites are Kino's Journey, Cowboy Bebop, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
I watched several episodes of Princess Tutu with the amine group. All I have to say is WHAT THE DUCK.
Irresponsible Captain Tylor: dear god no.
Baccano!: Fantastic story, which is possibly even more non-linear than it first seems. If you're squeamish for gore, don't watch, but otherwise, it's cool.
Aaaand that's my entire anime experience right there.

| Pokemon. But Ash is getting rather old, remove the poor bastard, put him out of his misery. Pikachu has been there for years and he still has trouble with the first gym.
Naruto was cool until AFTER the Chunin exams. Then it just started draaaggiing.
Dragon Ball Z stalls too much, has too much AAAAARRGHHHHHSSS for me, and this may just be me, but the over dramatic muscle weird me out. (I also never knew that their powers came from their hair. Why doesn't the villains just shave them?)
Death Note is awesome. The second season is a bit eh because it is post-L and I just like the previous season better, but still not bad. It's a short series because they're smart and want to stick with the story.
I watched the first seasons of One Piece when I was much younger, and as far as I remember, it's a wonderful series for younger viewers simply because of the sheer silliness, and still rather humorous for older viewers as well.
Inuyasha is Dragon Ball Z for girls, and the only thing that I hear in that series that still forever rings in my ears today is "naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku girl trouble naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku boy trouble naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku naraku".
Touhou. Lots of jiggly boobs and explosions. Teehee.

| Haven't seen much of anime, not enough to consider myself 'weeaboo', but,
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Finished it. Beautifully made plot and fantastically developed characters. Although it seems short, its quality would probably be tarnished if it were to be expanded any further. *spoilers* Kyubey quickly ranked as a favorite villain of mine. */Spoilers*
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Just started, about to watch episode 3. I can definitely see its parody nature, but drat, its hard not to get into the hot-blooded hamminess that occurs. Although its art is pretty typical for an anime (though the designs are still quite hammy in and of themselves), it has fun characters, an over-the-top plot, and has drawn me in by the first two episodes. Did I mention it has reached a critical level on the Memetic scale?
Soul Eater: Half-way finished the anime, somewhere above between episodes 30 and 40. A fun show that plays with many of the tropes of the classic horror genre, in the same vein as Castlevania, except the Grim Reaper is now the Big Good instead of the devilishly hard boss right before the end boss. It's art is smooth, it has some pretty witty comedy, and it can get pretty serious at times. It's plot can easily go up and down the spectrum of light, fun humor to dealing with horrorterrors of an utmost grimdarkness. Although from what I've seen, the Manga is superior to the anime.
I'll have some more review later.

| Oh gosh... lets see here.
Gurren Lagann had an excellent story, if it is not my favorite it is pretty far up their.
Dragonaut: The Resonance, also has a good story. A little too predictable... but they deviated so much from the manga that they almost had to write a new story.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00: It's Gundam, its gotta be good. (if you like mechs and weapons and stuff)
Full Metal Panic: Also another good story. Pretty much Gundam before there were gundams...
Elfen Lied: Not even going there... *shudders*
All of Hayao Miyazaki: Excellent except for one or two that are a bit too weird.
From what I've been able to Find of Evangelion: Excellent (No one seems to be able to keep anything past EP: 11)
I can't remember this one anime... (this is going to drive me crazy-er)
After those pretty much everything Patches said about the Animes I watched when I was younger.

| I might as well start because OP. I have watched/read (mostly read) a lot of things actually, so I'll spill them out here.
Vampire Knight - DEAR GOD. This is the first series that I watched when I was in middle school. In middle school I was also a huge weeaboo. Do you see the connection??? It's bland and filled with tons of cliche shojo manga elements (main character gets rescued by 'prince' figure, emo romantic competitor, etc.). Except it's not just bland. It actually has interesting ideas and concepts in it! Interesting ideas and concepts that are NEVER EXPLORED. Also the side characters only have character development in the fanbook and are really just there to spout exposition. If you want a series that will frustrate you endlessly then I'd read this (the anime isn't as good).
Death Note - As Patches said, it's an excellent series, though the second half gets highly convoluted. Both the anime and the manga are great reads, and definitely thought-provoking. There are also a few live-action movies, one that recaps the first arc (albeit with a different ending), and a spin-off movie. And yes I have watched all of them. I personally would start with the manga though, as it's a bit more detailed (and has more Matt).
Gentleman's Alliance Cross - Generic shojo with a few token gays nothing to do here really. I was kind of into this in my weeaboo years before I could recognize the difference between good series and the dimes a dozens. I'd avoid this one.
Bleach - It's a really good shonen series that's pretty much all fun and sexy swords, but it kind of started to drag on by, like, the 400th chapter, despite it generally considered to be in the "Top Three" with One Piece and Naruto. I kind of stopped reading it when I missed out on a few weeks and the Onemanga site shut down, however. It was just too much. e__e
Hetalia - 'Tis a webcomic/manga/anime about personified countries. I read the first two volumes. It's pretty funny, and I think anyone can get into it, as long as they aren't total wimps who think everything in there is ~*~offensive~*~ to their motherland or something.
Fullmetal Alchemist - Damn I need to catch up on this one. It's really an amazing series, and while I've only checked out the manga, the anime is also apparently excellent. It has moments of awesome, sadness, and laughter and it's all really balanced out and I don't know I really like the chimera things and it's just a good series okay
Natsume's Book of Friends - This is a really adorable manga series about a kid who finds a book filled with the names of different spirit monsters who he can then call on to have them do his bidding I guess? It's with that whole superstition about names in Japan, I suppose. Except instead of enslaving them he decides to free them instead by getting rid of the names. It's fairly episodic but last time I saw it was starting to gain one focused plot. All in all it's a pretty interesting series with tons of those fuzzy heart-warm moments.
Evangelion - Watch it.
Tsubasa - Okay the anime is complete crap let's start out with that. The manga however is pure gold shining down from mangaka heaven. 28 volumes (228 chapter I believe) of a sort of odd mixture between a romance story and a sort of shonen-esque plot that takes a dive towards the emo and angst right at the midpoint. It's a bit of a crossover from every single other series the group of authors, CLAMP, has made, so if you've ever watched Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, or some of their other titles then you'll be pleasantly surprised by the appearances of different characters and elements. At the same time it's not exclusive, so complete newbies can enjoy it too.
xxxHolic - Not porn. Another CLAMP series that crosses over with Tsubasa on many occasions, moreso than the shoutouts to previous series that CLAMP gives. It's a bit more of an episodic series with morals to it and such. I've just started reading it and the only reason I'm mentioning it is because there's a really funny story about a woman who wants to quit the internet because it's ruining her real life (spoilers: she doesn't) and it was retrospectively hilarious. No recommendations for or against it yet, though if you are reading Tsubasa it might be a good idea to pick this up sometime.
Tegami Bachi - Or letter bee, a series about a kid who delivers magic letters and fights giant bugs. It's weird, but it's kind of the fun weird. If you like action series that aren't all grimdark and serious I'd check this out.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica - /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
Tsuritama - I've only started this one a few days ago. 12 episode anime about aliens and fishing with a MIB-esque villian group that wears turbans and has a duck mascot. And now I realize what that reviewer for the series meant by saying they're probably trying too hard to be quirky. Even with that, it's a pretty cute slice-of-life series about a bunch of boys who go fishing. As of episode seven the plot seems to have crept in, and in all honesty I'm kind of hooked (pardon the pun).
I've also read a few other series like D. Gray Man, Otomen, and some others I don't quite remember, but I really don't feel like I have much of an opinion on them yet.
Wow I seriously need to get started on Gurren Lagann. Ugh but I haven't even finished Mirai Nikki yet and sdfghjkl

| Well, since everyone else is doing it...
Evangelion: Probably the first anime I actually looked into. I think.
PSG: You know how I feel about this already. The dub's not as good as the original IMO.
FLCL: Good series for its shortness. Watched this one because Viz told me to. I liked it.
P3M: Great series. Thought about making an RP based on it, but I never did.
Squid Girl: Watched a few episodes of this because TV Tropes described it as being similar to Yotsubato!. It's good.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Watched the first season, lost interest. I did like Sacred Star of Milos though.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Only seen about 4 episodes of it due to my brother showing me. Good, but not something I would watch a lot.
Ghibli Movies: Very good. Favorites are a tie between Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
That's pretty much it, besides the various 4kids dubs I used to watch and some other movies (Sonic the Hedgehog OVA and stuff). Probably going to watch Excel Saga next...
Also screw Kazumi for not having any scanlations for chapter 15+ yet.

| Okay so updating my list like right now???
First of all I finished Tsuritama and DANG was it good. I was expecting a good second half and it gave me one. I'd recommend it to anyone who's alright with the story taking a while to boot up and has a thing for slice-of-life animes.
Second of all for fucks sake I forgot Ouran Host Club I'm a horrible person. Okay so this series is beautiful in every way and everyone should watch it. It's a affectionate parody of the shojo genre but it also has moments of drama in it that just really fit. Warning to guys though, it's kind of an "abandon balls here" thing due to the sheer girliness of it all.
Also, I've started watching Mirai Nikki or Future Diary. It seems really good so far! It's a horror series though so it'll probably take a turn worse than End of Evangelion in about a few episodes though.
What's PSG? | |

| Code Geass - This anime. Like, ahmahgosh. I remember watching this every week a couple years ago whenever they release a new subbed episode. Includes badass, over-exaggerated spin kicks, some robots (shhh don't let it disuade you), and a highschool guy who likes touching his face, leads a terrorist organization, and has crazy eye powers. I loved this show, and still do a bit.
Death Note - Super smart main charrie who kills people with his magical notebook that he found outside of school. He then works towards cleaning up the world from criminals and then wants to become god of the new world. Supernatural serial killer, bunch of mind fuck. It's awesome.
FMA/FMA:B - Fullmetal Alchemist is great like everyone said, so yeah. Blah blah blah, stuff.
Gurren Lagaan - Haven't finished this, but I got pretty far in it and already have a vague idea of how it ends. Pretty good. Giant robots, fun characters, fan service, etc. Not my favorite, but still good.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - I watched this cause Luna talked about it. You got giant robots, mindfuck, crazy monsters, 14 year olds who can't catch a break and various other things. I watched every episode, but haven't been managing to finish a single of the movies including EoE.
Spiral - This one's pretty badass. I watched the anime a long time ago and I own all the manga. By the way, the anime and manga are way different. In the anime, it basically just quits after a while whereas the manga keeps going. I haven't finished the manga, but my brother insists that I do. Someday!
D.N.Angel - Shoujo I guess since it was in Shoujo Beat for a while. It's about some kid who finds out that he shares a body with the master Phantom Thief Dark. He grows wings, robs places, so it's good fun. I liked it. 26 episodes so not too long or anything.
Gundam 00 - Bluh, I don't feel like typing anymore. It was good.
Deadman Wonderland - I read the manga up to chapter 50 or so and then stopped a couple months back. Then the started airing the anime on Adult Swim, so I've been watching it regularly when it's on. Mindfuck, magic blood powers, cool stuff.
Black Butler - 12 year old kid who is the head this one family now that his parents are dead. He's pretty cool and he pretends to be a girl 2 or 3 times. He made a faustian contract with a demon. The demon will remain his protector and servant until he dies, at which point it will devour his soul. I only watched the anime but it was alright, I'll say.
Blood+ - Watched this a couple years ago and liked it a lot. A girl has to kill monsters which her blood is poisonous to. Includes cello, a little boy gets raped (sorta), and some pretty cool looking monsters.
Homestuck - My favorite animu
Various other animes, etc.
A THEN THERE WERE A BUNCH OF MANGAS AND KOREAN WEBTOONS.
EDIT: Oh, Luna, I started reading Mirai Nikki recently. Haven't even finished the first chapter. :O

| I haven't seen very much, but I'll try. Dragon Ball: Dicks and adult humor. Meh Dragon Ball Z: An OK plot, but the drama seems to be a little arbitrary, as do the villain goals. Dargon Ballz GeeTee: WTF, is this for 3 year olds or something? Fairy Tail: Lolwut | |

| So this is only kind of related, but has anyone seen Kappa Mikey? It was this American guy in Japan filming a TV show, but the catch was that he was in an "American" style while everyone else looked like decent "anime" drawings on DA. It wasn't a Japanese show, and it's not anything great, but I used to like it and I am wondering about anyone else. | |

| Well, it would depend on your interests, A. The genres have a tendency to be REALLY broad in what's actually in them, mostly due to the fact that the creators of the series tend to make...odd settings and the like. I might recommend One Piece, since I've heard that it's pretty fun and actiony without getting too grimdark.
I remember KM from somewhere. Maybe a commercial or something. I've never seen it though.
Also, I've been considering watching Wolf's Rain. Have you guys ever seen it/do oyu guys think I should see it?

Okay I'm kind of back in the swing of that fandom so of course I'm going to be biased but it's a really good series. It starts with a romance plot but it's also really actiony at the same time (think Kingdom Hearts with hopping from world to world on adventure to rescue princess) and it's just really fun.
But you have to read it because the anime stepped on it, ripped out its entrails, and ate it while it was begging for mercy. The availability of scanlations online is pretty erratic, with there being a tendency to suddenly skip the middle chapters, but you should always be able to find the first ten chapters on most places.

| Ok so I decided to watch some of the Crayon Shin-Chan dub because I heard it was funny. It is. I mean, it's not that it's smartly hilarious, it's pretty much a Dead Baby Comedy. But it's funny. At the very least, the end song is catchy.
Unfortunately, this lead to my brother getting hooked on it and watching the first season in two days or so. Oh well.
