PostSubject: Pokémon Black and Blue - PETA's new flash game to enforce animal rights   Pokémon Black and Blue - PETA's new flash game to enforce animal rights I_icon_minitimeMon 08 Oct 2012, 1:37 pm

im not sure if y'all have seen it already, but i personally think it's a pretty cool way to represent animal rights and the cruelty towards them???

here is the link to the game!! please read the notes below before playing though ):
http://features.peta.org/pokemon-black-and-white-parody/

IMPORTANT!!!
you will win chests when defeating an opponent, PLEASE TAKE REGARDS TO THE FACT THAT THE FIRST CHEST GIVES YOU A VIDEO WHICH FEATURES GRAPHIC CRUELTY TOWARDS ANIMALS, WHICH YOU MAY BE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH VIEWING.

the game also has a lot of body horror (an amount of gore, along with various damage done to the pokémon's bodies themselves) within it, so if youre not willing to see your precious pokémon butchered up then dont play the game

every other chest does not hold any videos, and are good to go and shouldnt make anyone uncomfortable at all uvu

just thought it would be nice to share!

I uh...

umm.

Well, Peta, you've done it again. entirely missed the point of the games, and managed to offend people at the same time. bravo.

It's an interesting idea, to be sure, but I predict about five minutes before Pokemon sues for copyright infringement.

Also, since when did Cheren get a Pikachu?

... Okay, Peta, learn how to deliver your message in a way that is a little less heavy handed. I don't need 6 pages of dialogue to remind me that "ANIMALS FIGHTING IS BAD!"

And Peta? We're already on your side! We don't think animal abuse is a good thing! Don't use a mocking and insulting version of our past times as a weapon- you'll only empower reactionary morons, and alienate a fairly large portion of your potential audience because, GASP, most nerds are liberals!

um im pretty sure that part was a joke
at least i assumed as much as it would be because i highly doubt that they would have been 100% serious with the whole pokemon battling being bad :/

if they were then jesus christ

though i did find the gamr quite enjoyable? and like i said i really liked the idea of it, but yeah opinions ew gross

I mean i can see why people would get offended, though im just not seeing the game as being 'serious' about it all, so im assuming that will be why

also regarding the copyright
a) they may have received permission
Or
b) nintendo wont be happy

It's not that PETA hates animal abuse, but rather that they don't seem to want any human to interact with any animals at all.

Another thing: Nintendo probably won't sue. It pretty much falls under parody, and they call it that themselves. They only way Nintendo could sue is if they took it as "slander", and to be honest it's more of "use existing franchise to put point across" than it is "Pokemon is bad and you should feel bad".

They've parodied Nintendo before, and they'll do it again, badly (See: Super Chick Sisters). I don't respect Peta's methods, because they generally include a) making laughingstocks of themselves, b) funding arsonists, or c) being hypocrites. They would have something of a point if they were more intellectually and practically reasonable, but they're not.

Also, this bears a repost.

actually, this crossed the lines from parody because it uses the characters names and the name of the franchise. Parody has limits, and when you start putting characters from something directly from it into your story, game, or media, you crossed that line. Want proof? Google "Pennyarcade strawberry shortcake". That image got taken down in like 5 minutes. Never mind that it is in fact intended to hurt pokemon game sales- I did some reading and they appear to be referring to it as a method of training children to abuse animals.

Also, I found it rather amusing that the peacful options(like protest and group hug) weren't as effective as the combat abilities. so... Peta is teaching kids that non-violence never solves anything and the best way to get your point across is to hurt people? Note that the description for quick attack is "Pikatchu snuck in and hit Cheren". that doesn't sound like quick attack to me, it sounds like something peta has been accused of doing in the past(outright attacking people)...

I suppose i must like the game for the wrong reasons because i do see where youre coming from because that is true that they are pretty hypocritical omfg

I just really love the body horror etc but that doesnt really seem to fulfil the purpose of trying to make people less violent towards animals wow

And are they seriously trying to say pokemon is 'bad'? O:

yeah, they don't seem to understand that we'd be behind them if they were talking about animal abuse or animal testing or hell, even fur if it's gained in an unethical way, but no. they spend their effort on Pokemon.

PETA is dumb. I agree animal Abuse isn't cool, but they are just Extremists or Radicals, hell Political Terrorists. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals my ass. More like People for the Erroneous Treatment of not Animals.

They won't be sued. It is a Parody, they don't make money off of it. Using trademarked names isn't illegal, just frowned upon. They gave no credit to Gamefreak and Nintendo however, and some other stuff is going to make Gamefreak pissed in one way or another.

They can't even make a good plotline or Acronym.

whether they make money is irrelivant- what is important is if Gamefreak feals it can have a negative impact on their income. It's specifically designed to say "don't buy this" so they can't do it.

Isn't that the same as a political attack ad that says to not vote for someone?

you can't have a copyright on a person, though.

Except for contracts, which can almost be the same thing.

And it is the same way with GameFreak. They know all the copyrights, trademarks, registered names, etc won't stop people from doing that kind of stuff. And in all honesty I really doubt this is affecting sales in anyway. I'd say a large amount of their income comes from the loyal fans that find it offensive and would buy the game and trading cards, etc even if there was a connection to it and animal abuse.

In my opinion the most that will come of this is a strong reaction from the Pokemon Audience. Which will bring up attention to Peta. Peta wins because "Haters make you Famous." It is how they get stuff done anyways. Being sensationalists and all, it is what they shoot for. Offend everyone and everyone else will get behind you. It always works like that. Why? I don't know, you don't know, nobody gives a shit.

PETA makes something offensive, Pokemon Fans get Upset, Pokemon fans rant and rave about it, specialized media gives attention, Gamefreak sues, media gives attention, Gamefreak wins lawsuit, Media gives more attention. In the end, PETA wins.

So, arguing about whether or not they sue solves nothing, all it does is helps them. How do you fix it? Ignore them.

I think that I need to say something before we spend the next 3 pages talking about how terrible they are.

There are two petas- peta, and peta2. I guarantee this came from Peta2, because they're the ones who organize the shock-tactic media. Peta, who are less famous, are the ones who get things done by actually working with the police to bring those who abuse animals to justice. support them.
