A sapient meme? Like, a voice in Urvad's head? o: Interesting! Tell me more!

Alright folks, it looks like only one or two more people still need to get their sheets in, so I'll start working on that map now. Do any of you have preferences on when you'd like the IC to go up? Spring break's coming up for me so this weekend sometime would be good, assuming we're ready by then!

I have no oppositions. Though I think there's room to add lots to the world THough a basic map outline would be pretty useful for deciding where certain things go.

While I don't specifically want active gods, I would say without the gods being active, a unified pantheon would be silly.

I figure, far enough back as what we were discussing them for, it doesn't truly matter whether it was an act of god or man (sapient being? The English language breaks down when we have to acknowledge other creatures as sapient), no one remembers anymore, and the former probably sounded more poetic at the time.

So Omni, what I figure is, a long, long, long time ago, probably in as far back as could be considered "the 700's"~ (No frame of reference, so hold with me here), I imagine the region around the Muninn sea (It probably wasn't called that, at the time) was ruled by a single Kingdom/Empire, who followed our shared religion. This empire was primarily humans, with the capital in your rainbow sunshine kingdom where everything is happy. :p

Eventually, a priest either prayed into existence, or personally made, or nobody really knows, into existence the Vrana, who were intended as religious servants and followers. Things remain about okay for while, before the Vrana either demand independence, or it is thrust onto them by a kingdom that no longer wants them, and they migrate across the land to the mouth of the sea, where they are allowed to settle. As a result of their rebellion, or the continuation of the same unrest that saw them expelled, this Ur-Kingdom begins to fall apart due to internal factors, breaking up into the many different lands in the region, a fair number of which the stable Huginnese state gobbled up as they were spit out. (Huginn has a sizeable human minority to this day.) Eventually, the balance of power had shifted, Huginn was a dominant force in the region, and the former empire had whittled down into a single, picturesque region, that everybody still sharing the religion mutually acknowledged as blessed, and wrong to try to conquer.

Sounds good to me.

I know that a rainbow sunshine kingdom where everything is happy sounds kind of bogus but I always hate the thought of a Princess ruling a kingdom where everyone hates them. ;o; I mean I could find some other aspect of the kingdom that is in turmoil. I am just unsure as to what it should be right now.

Well she'd be a queen, not a princess, for one. :p

But peasants are never exactly happy under feudalism. (Which, to be honest, in a world this advanced enough periods of enlightenment have probably happened that feudalism is if nothing else, on the way out.) Though through many means have kings and queens placated the lower classes. There will always be dissenters, but as long as the ruler is just, the laws fair, and the taxation not that harsh, the peasantry can normally be made to accept the yoke upon them. Obviously, civil wars happen, but that's just part of how it works.

A good way to keep a kingdom together is to give them an other, mind you. A something they're all clearly not, and this makes them better. Be that other "The French" or "The Muslims", it was a useful tool in the middle ages.

Though your being a happy rainbow sunshine paradise is fine, this is a magical world after all. :p It just gives me something in character to rag on about as I try to groom you into a 'proper ruler'.

To an extent I kind of imagine her as still having alive parents to sit the thrown, but I also imagine it not as more of a figure head position. I haven't really developed the kingdom more, but It could easily be a democratic monarchy. Similar to a presidency. The monarchical family has the predominant power, but the collective peoples opinions still outweigh their opinion. The monarch would simply be the one with the deciding factor on hard decisions.
I am not really sure. I feel to an extent like I'm just trying to justify this to myself.

I didn't mean to imply they weren't, you just said "a princess ruling", which isn't how that works. :p

Anyhoo, that makes some amount of sense. You may be thinking of a Constitutional Monarchy? Specifically the executive kind, where the royal family still holds some power, but much of the legislation is handled by a parliament.

Well, I'm mostly having this conversation because it's fun and I enjoy talking about mutual world building, instead of world building in isolation from everyone else... but, I mean, you don't really need to. We don't know where this game is going to go, and it's entirely likely we never end up in any player's crafted nation, and the whole exercise was for naught. Do it if you want to, but if you aren't inspired, no big deal, we'll build and then cross that bridge if we ever actually come to it.

It is quite interesting. I'm curious as to where this story IS going to take us. What parts of the world will we actually go to and which parts of the world won't we. I mean I understand the general idea will likely have us going all over the place. But clearly we can't go everywhere.

Physical attributes: Tall statures. Hardy, resilient systems grants them powerful immune systems and their genetic makeup allows them to rapidly regenerate damaged cells and tolerance for harsh environmental conditions. Has two pairs of three tentacles in place of their arms. However, their muscular strength and durability is somewhat lacking.
Scientific attributes: Has nil technological presence. Has difficulty comprehending digital electronics and lacks the strength and durability for mechanical engineering. Their brains are, however, supremely calculating and are very mathematical. Excels in natural sciences.
Magical attributes: Prodigal. They possess an innate understanding of magic like humans understand science and sees almost every component of it. Duly so, are capable of magic - most especially forms of biomancy and astromancy - that appears to warp laws of reality by manipulating life and cosmic bodies on an elemental level.

I also put them on the GoogleDoc for a bit more culture and what kind of alien this is. Tell me if you like them, if not, we can remove it. I might have gotten too invested in it, as you can tell by the alphabet I scribbled up.

Two pairs of three. Two different sets. Like the word "ass". Three letters in one set, or in this case, word. Ass ass. Now we have two pairs of three letters. Or a "three-item pair".

You ass.

Would that we could all be as proud, you magnificent idol you.

I don't see anything specifically wrong with them, at least as a concept. Though now I think with them the setting/intent of the story/scope of the story is getting rather blended into an alphabet soup of concepts. Not that there's anything technically bad about that, just, we want to be careful the story doesn't lose any narrative cohesion.

But I mean it's still of your own design. :P As opposed to just pilfering symbols from elsewhere.

Edit: I'm concerned our world is gonna be glued together badly. I mean because it's a bunch of separate people with separate ideas of how things should be there's going to be a disconnect. Though to an extent that might not be so bad. The real world is kind of like that isn't it.

Edit2: What does "Dual Counterparts" mean.

Accepted Patches! And nice alphabet :D Got any ideas for Mazdai characters?

To whomever organized the google drive: That's amazing, I love you. And yeah, we've made a lot of lore (well mostly you guys have made it!) and probably not eeeevery place is going to be visited, but the "main quest" should take y'all on a pretty thorough tour of the world. The issue there is we might need to timeskip between legs of the journey xP But I won't say any more about the plot until the IC goes up. I spent the walk to the Greyhound station and back thinking about the final battle and I think I've got it nailed to a point.

Mata, could you explain what Dual Counterparts is though? Unless that's incredibly plot important. In which case what is there that we can do with it concerning the drive.

Well I mentioned in my sheets different continents, so I think we should begin to organize kingdoms like that. If we make up continents, we can then figure out what is where in relation to other kingdoms.

So you mean like, secondary continents in the same region? I had sort of assumed that each region had different continents as it were.

And as Ji has suggested elsewhere, some of the races, nobody is using, and perhaps they should be gotten rid of in the name of less setting clutter, so we can have a potentially more limited number of races that are better fleshed out for the amount of effort put in.
