Nope. You'll need a monster manual for monster stats. Dnd has always been like that.

Well I actually have a thing that can do most of the work for us/me. We should probably start where it's important, what kind of character do you want to be?

Tank, and healer are confirmed things that have been taken. Patches hasn't technically chosen anything, so he can't lay claim to striker like he was kind of going to do. So the party could use DPS or crowd control. If you'd like I can list the classes for each role.

That would be a tank is my thing. Party cohesion would suffer, but if you want.

No, but they're crowd control. Conversely, sorcerers, which are like wizards, are DPSes. There is a difference, yes. Would you like the class list?

Yeah, in the future if I mention a book, know that one can aquire it through the intertubes.

If you're on an iphone/ipod, there's an adobe pdf reader app, you can use to get these books on that. You wanted to play a paladin? There's a class in that book called invoker, is a religious mage, basically.

There's also a handbook 3 out there of you wish to find it. Most of its classes are excessively complicated for someone new though.

Okay, so we've got a tank and a DPS. Does that mean that a Crowd Control would work?

Yes, yes it would. Any class listed as a Controller is that job.
